The mayor María Luz Lastras and the Challenge Madrid Race Director Alfonso Rodríguez de Sadia signed a collaboration agreement whereby San Martín de Valdeiglesias will host the start of Challenge Madrid until 2021. The event will start from the Virgen de la Nueva beach (San Juan swamp) where the swimming sector and the beginning of the cycle sector will take place. It will continue for the southwest of the Community of Madrid until finishing at the Km.0 of Puerta del Sol. The achievement of the Blue Flag award by the Virgen de la Nueva beach has been decisive for San Martín de Valdeiglesias to be chosen as the start point.
